The Kennydale Neighborhood Association’s first Annual Food Drive was undertaken in 2011, and in the 5 years since then, we have observed two things: the need is always there, and the Kennydale community has consistently and generously responded to that need. So we are looking forward to this fall and another successful drive, which will start on Monday, November 2, and end on the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 25. As in past years, the Kennydale Elementary School will be the collection point for all donated food; please look for the collection barrel(s) in the school lobby. And of course we will have a contest between the classrooms, and the class that collects the most items will be rewarded with a pizza party! KNA Youth Board member Devin Dolling will again chair this year’s Drive.
Of course, all Kennydale residents are encouraged to drop a food donation off at the school; you don’t need to have children attending there! Last year, over 2656 items were donated by Kennydale’s residents, and we’re hoping for even more this year. Acceptable donations include non-perishable goods such as canned food, pasta, boxed meals, juice, cereal, etc. In the interest of balanced nutrition, no leftover Halloween candy, please! KNA will again be delivering all the food to the Reach Center of Hope. The Center of Hope is a Renton organization that creates a safe environment for mothers and children to seek shelter, a place for showering, laundry, food and counseling. For more information about them, please visit their website at www.reachrenton.org . Thank you for anything you can share with this very worthwhile organization!
