Last summer’s warmth and dryness caused a real growth in our ivy at the Kennydale Beach parking lot. The trees and bushes were being strangled by the ivy so it took a real group effort to help save them. I want to give a special thank you to Diana Wallace, Joy Dolling, Kim and Theo Browne, Frank Nimmo and Jim Stone for adopting the month of July in which to tackle this job.
Thank you also to one of our garden club members, Pasang Sherpa, who donated his time and professional expertise on a weekend to prune the bushes and trees at the parking lot, and to Graham Dougherty for helping in the clean up. Dan and Jackie Norton, who live in the home directly south of the Beach parking lot, finished laying down landscaping fabric and beauty bark. Dan also notified the city about a dangerous open culvert directly next to the pedestrian/biker lane. The City responded in a very timely manner with the installation of a protective grate, thus enhancing the safety of bikers and walkers on this portion of Lake Washington Blvd. Finally, thank you to Janet and Rick Eriksson who helped my husband Darius and I pull weeds during the entire “growing” season from April through September. Janet and Rick also watered plants at KNA’s landscaped areas next to exit 6 every day this summer. I look forward to working together with all of you and anyone else who wishes to help out in 2014. Vicki Richards, KNA Landscape Maintenance Chair
