“Kennydale Rocks”, a new art activity for kids, will be held under the direction of Kelly Affleck, Art Instructor and Artist, and Kennydale resident and Artist, Karen Easton.
This will take place at KNA’s first Ice Cream Social on June 17, 2018, in the Art Building at Kennydale Lions Park, 2428 Aberdeen Ave. NE. Rocks, paint and brushes will be provided. On the top side of the rock, kids can paint an arty message or their favorite flower or design. On the bottom of the rock, KNA has pre-painted a message. It says “Found Me? Keep or Re-hide.” It then asks the finder to post a picture on our Facebook page*. After painting the rocks, the kids will be able to take their finished Rock home and they can hide it in Kennydale, or they can take it on a vacation and hide it for some other lucky person to find! Come and join in the fun! *In order to save time, KNA will pre-print the message on the bottom of all rocks. Go to Kennydale Rocks Facebook Page - www.facebook.com/KennydaleRocks

KNA is excited to announces our fourth annual Fall Food Drive. The drive will run from November 3rd through the 26th. As in past years, the Kennydale Elementary School will be the gathering point for all donated food; look for the collection barrel in the school’s lobby. A contest will be held between the classrooms, and the class that collects the most food items will be rewarded with a pizza party.
All Kennydale residents are encouraged to drop a donation off at the school, even if you don’t have children attending there. Last year, over 3500 food items were donated by the caring citizens of Kennydale. We are hoping to collect even more items this year! Acceptable donations include non-perishable goods such as canned food, pasta, boxed meals, juice, cereal etc. (Please, no leftover Halloween candy!) As we did last year, all contributions will be given to the REACH: Center of Hope. The Center of Hope is a Renton organization that creates a safe environment for mothers and children to seek shelter, a place for showering, laundry, food and counseling. For more information about them, please visit their website at www.reachrenton.org . Thank you for anything you can share with this very worthwhile organization! Thursday, September 4th – 5:30 to 7:30 pm

This free, fun filled event will also include games and activities for the kids, face painting, a Balloon Clown, Door Prizes for members, Displays by the Renton Fire, Police, EMT’s and the King County Mobile “Library2GO” Van and MORE!! To help ensure your comfort, it’s a good idea to bring a blanket or chairs for sitting – and No Pets Please. On March 29, four Garden Club members - Laurie Beden, Sarah Ennis, Susan Miller and Vicki Richards - got the season off to a start by touring the Bellevue Botanical Gardens*. At the start, there was some rain, but it stopped and the sun even made a brief appearance. The group walked through the trails and over the suspension bridge, observing the bulbs that are blooming and the trees which are just beginning to leaf out. Overall, the Gardens consists of 53 acres of cultivated gardens, restored woodlands and natural wetlands. A new visitor center is under construction and will open in the fall.
Now is a great time to pull weeds in your garden beds. All the RAIN we have had makes for easy pulling – so if the sun comes out, it’s a great time to be outside. The Club’s next garden event is on Thursday, May 8 at 7:00 pm., at Susan Miller’s home. This is our annual container planting event. The way it works is, you bring your gloves and hand tools, containers and suitable plants....and a few extra plants to trade with the others. KNA will supply the potting soil! Please call Susan at 206-601-1584 if you would like to attend. Participation in the KNA Garden Club is free and open to all paid-up KNA members! * The Gardens are located at 12001 Main Street, in Bellevue. Free, and open daily January 28th

For this event, we showed the movie “Dolphin Tale,” which was billed as something that family members of all ages would enjoy….and it certainly proved to be just that.
The Ice Cream Social started at 6:30 pm, and in the next two hours we served over 200 portions. At around 8:30, it was dark enough to start the movie. As with all six of the City of Renton’s “Screen on the Green” events presented in 2013, a huge inflatable screen was used, and a trained crew of Parks Dept. technicians did all of the set-up, equipment operation, and take-down. At this particular event, KNA members assisted with the non-technical tasks. About 100 adults and children stayed for the movie, which concluded shortly after 10 pm. We feel that this was a very successful event, and accordingly the KNA will pursue doing another combined movie and ice cream social next year at Lions Park. Based on feedback that we received from several parents, there is some interest and doing this on a Friday night instead of Tuesday, so we will try to make the necessary arrangements for that.. If you would like to express a preference, please leave us a comment below. The garden club annual plant exchange will take place on Thursday September 19th at 7pm at Sharon Weibler's home. Divide perennials and bring to garden club so we can share with the rest of the members. Contact Sharon to RSVP or for address and directions: 425-226-9299.
Come enjoy some ice cream and the movie Dolphin Tale on Tuesday August 13th at Lions Park. The ice cream social starts at 6:30pm, and the movie gets started at 8pm. It looks like a good movie for families, here's the link to it on Rotten Tomatoes: http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/dolphin_tale/
