The KNA Board is proud to announce that the Kennydale News has won 3rd Place in the NUSA Neighborhood Newsletter Competition (for newsletters printed 6 or less times per year). NUSA, which stands for Neighborhoods USA, is a national non-profit organization that is committed to building and strengthening neighborhood organizations. Each year, they hold competitions in a variety of categories, including neighborhood newsletters, projects that re-vitalize neighborhoods socially or physically, and the like. Hundreds of neighborhoods throughout the United States are invited to participate in these competitions.
KNA first became aware of NUSA through Drey Hicks, the Renton Neighborhood Program Coordinator. He contacted our Board in January and encouraged us to consider entering the 2017 competitions. We chose the Newsletter category because we felt that the Kennydale News would well fulfill NUSA’s evaluation criteria of content, layout, consistency, relevance and overall appearance. We are very pleased to announce also that our neighbors directly north of Kennydale, the LaCrosse Homeowners Association, were awarded 2nd Place in the NUSA Neighborhood of the Year – Physical Revitalization/Beautification category for their community garden & beehive project. Their community garden is truly fantastic, and their award is well-deserved. At the Renton City Council meeting on June 26, 2017, Kennydale and LaCrosse were presented their NUSA award plaques by Carrie Nass, the Renton Neighborhoods, Resources & Events Manager. Representing KNA at this ceremony were Rajendra & Subhashni Agrawaal, Darius & Vicki Richards, and Stephanie Fife. Representing the LaCrosse HOA were Chris & Priscilla Fitzgerald, and Janet & Dan Hill. My sincere thanks to all who write articles for the newsletter, the City of Renton for its Newsletter Grants, the additional financial support of our members and advertisers, and of course Stephanie Fife (Just Your Type Printing), for her first-class design and layout work on every issue.
