Kennydale Water Reservoir Update
Construction of New Water Reservoir:
The construction of Kennydale’s new water reservoir reached a major milestone on March 19, 2020, when the roof was lifted and set into place on top of the tank. The actual lift only took a few minutes, but several hours were required before that to relocate several of the anchoring points for the lifting cables; this was done to ensure that the roof would be perfectly level when it was lowered onto the top rim of the tank. At about 12:30 pm, initial contact was made between the roof and the top of the tank; additional time was taken to ensure that the roof was perfectly aligned with the tank and to begin the process of attaching the two structures together. Looking forward, this project has been declared as an essential work site, and therefore work will continue as long as personnel and materials are available as scheduled; that schedule shows all steelwork being completed by April 6; special coatings will be applied to the inside and outside of the tank April 6-8, and electrical work and inspection of the welds (visual and x-ray) will also be done at the appropriate times. |
Art Mural Update:
Peter Goetzinger of Artistbrothers, the artist who was selected by the Renton Municipal Arts Commission to create a mural on the exterior of the reservoir, presented three possible designs at the January 28, 2020 Kennydale neighborhood meeting. Attendees at that meeting were then given the opportunity to vote on their 1st, 2nd and 3rd choices among these designs. Other residents were also able to vote online from January 15-31. Of the three designs, the neighborhoods residents expressed a majority (70%) approval for the design consisting of evergreens and natural landscaping. |
